Here is our update for the week.  One quick note.  I thought that our last day of school was the 22nd, but it is actually the 21st.  So… our Holiday Party will be on the 21st at 1pm.  Sorry for the change.

Bowling Party

We will be having our bowling party on Wednesday December 14.  The plan is to have bowling from 10-11 and then Pizza after that.  We also won a pizza party from Marco’s, so we should be all set.  If anyone is willing to send in juice boxes for the lunch that would be great.  I’ll send out a reminder before the day, but lunch will be provided on this day.

Also parents are more than welcome to stop by Hudsonville lanes during the 10-11 block.  If you would like to attend please feel free.

Thanks,

Toby

Take Home Reading Program

Posted by Toby Jurewicz | Posted in 16/17 | Posted on December 6, 2016

Hello Families,

Tonight you will start to see a book coming home with your child each night.  This is a book that will be at their individual reading level.  The intent of this is to have the child read a book that has been sent home for at least 5 minutes every night.  Books at your child’s level are often difficult to find and this way you will have resources at home that are age appropriate for your child.

A new book will be sent home each night.  Simply take the book out and have your child read it to you.  These books should be read to an adult and should be frustration free.  Using the picture and sounding out the words are excellent ways that they have been taught to decode the words.  After the book is read please write the date, title, and your initials on the book inventory log.  PLEASE send the book back each day and a new one will be returned.   If a book is not returned another book cannot be sent home until the previous book has been returned.

A bookmark with all of our reading strategies is included in the bag.  If they get to a word they don’t know encourage them to use these strategies.  Lips the Fish, Eagle Eye, and Stretchy Snake are particularly useful.

Thank you for your help and please let me know if you have any questions,

Mr. Jurewicz
