Hello Families,

Tonight you will start to see a book coming home with your child each night.  This is a book that will be at their individual reading level.  The intent of this is to have the child read a book that has been sent home for at least 5 minutes every night.  Books at your child’s level are often difficult to find and this way you will have resources at home that are age appropriate for your child.

A new book will be sent home each night.  Simply take the book out and have your child read it to you.  These books should be read to an adult and should be frustration free.  Using the picture and sounding out the words are excellent ways that they have been taught to decode the words.  After the book is read please write the date, title, and your initials on the book inventory log.  PLEASE send the book back each day and a new one will be returned.   If a book is not returned another book cannot be sent home until the previous book has been returned.

A bookmark with all of our reading strategies is included in the bag.  If they get to a word they don’t know encourage them to use these strategies.  Lips the Fish, Eagle Eye, and Stretchy Snake are particularly useful.

Thank you for your help and please let me know if you have any questions,

Mr. Jurewicz
